URBANDALE, Iowa – July 6, 2016 – The Urbandale Education Foundation (UEF), a non-profit organization committed to enhancing the educational experience of students in the Urbandale Community School District (UCSD), announced today that its 3rd Annual Brad Peyton Memorial Golf Tournament generated over $15,000 which will be used to continue investing in UEF ‘Making a Difference Grants’ for educators, scholarships for Urbandale High School graduates and building alumni connections. Held at the Hyperion Field Club on June 27, 2016, the tournament consisted of 108 golf participants, 20 volunteers and over 30 sponsors that came together to honor a family, celebrate a life and support UCSD. To date, the golf tournament has raised nearly $65,000 in support of UCSD students and educators.
The UEF received an outpouring of support from community members and business leaders throughout Urbandale and greater Des Moines. For the second consecutive year Plaza Printers was a gold-level title sponsor and donated all printing and signage for the tournament. Steve and Rose Ann Schuler continued their generous support as a silver-level title sponsor. The UEF was fortunate to receive substantial support from the following bronze-level title sponsors: Steve and Karla Bass, Bob and Gayle Johnson, AO Wealth Advisory, Barnum Floors, DLR Group, Flooring America, Gardner Law Firm, P.C., J & K Automotive, Kaduce & Company, P.C., Reliant Media Solutions, The Business Brokers, Inc. and West Bank. In addition, 16 businesses, organizations and individuals offered their support as a lunch sponsor, beverage sponsor and hole sponsors. Page 2 of 3
“I feel fortunate to live in Urbandale due to its great community spirit and outstanding community support,” said UEF Board President Steve Schuler.
“This includes the support of dedicated community leaders, much like Brad Peyton was, and support of the entire Urbandale community including Urbandale Schools. The continual success of the tournament supports our mission of enhancing educational opportunities for Urbandale students, teachers and staff. My wife, Rose Ann, and I have lived in Urbandale nearly 40 years and we just love the sense of community and fellowship throughout Urbandale. It is truly what makes Urbandale a special place to live.”
Peyton was a 24-year resident of Urbandale and a devoted husband, father, friend and community supporter. He made a positive difference in the lives of so many as a coach and board member for Urbandale Little League, a co-founder of the Shining City Foundation, a key political strategist and an advocate for the UCSD. He was instrumental in rallying support for the bond issue responsible for the building and remodeling of Webster Elementary, Urbandale Middle School and Urbandale High School. Peyton died in September 2013, at the age of 56 following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. The Urbandale Education Foundation is honored every year to carry forth his legacy in supporting Urbandale students and educators.
“This is a labor of love for me,” said UEF Board Member and Peyton Memorial Golf Tournament Chair Dan Meyer. “The Peyton’s were the first family we met when we moved to Urbandale nearly 20 years ago. I’m proud the UEF is choosing to honor Brad and his work on behalf of the district in this way.” Page 3 of 3
