Runners and walkers are invited to turn the lights on for the Opportunity Village Festival of Trees at the “Lights On 5K” event at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4.
With runners and walkers encouraged to dress up in costumes and lights for the holidays, the run will bring lights to the Village’s Kinney-Lindstrom Center on the day before Opening Night for Festival of Trees. Runners and walkers will start and end at The Other Place Restaurant on Highway 18 W., Clear Lake and follow streets in the Opportunity Village neighborhood on the northwest edge of town.
Proceeds from registration and donations will buy Christmas gifts for Opportunity Village clients in need. Anyone may donate towards the Christmas gift project even if they aren’t interested in running. Last year, the first Lights On 5K raised over $3,000 which was used to buy presents for 50 individuals, almost double what had been available for Christmas gifts in the past.
Register online at http://www.lightson5k.org before Nov. 14 for $20 and receive a race shirt. After Nov. 14, registration is $25 and a shirt is not guaranteed. You may also pick up registration forms at the Village main office in Clear Lake; at the Village’s Chappell Building, 217 7th Ave N, Clear Lake; or at the event. If temperatures fall below zero, the event will be cancelled with no refunds.
