Fred LeRoy Sturdevant, 81, joined his Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 23, 2014, from Fountain West Health Care Center in West Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 27, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, located at 8301 Aurora Avenue in Urbandale. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, at the church, where an additional visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Committal services will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, at Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, IA.
Fred Sturdevant was on born June 23, 1933 to Frank G. and Hulda M.F. (Heiser) Sturdevant in Des Moines, IA. Fred was a graduate of Atlantic High School, where he met the love of his life, Ethel Lorraine Karstensen. They were married September 27, 1953 in Altantic. Fred retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Company after 37 years; owned and operated an electrical contracting company; served the City of Grimes as a council member; was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran church; served in the United States Army and the National Guard. Fred’s greatest joy was his family, especially his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren who are left with infinite happy memories!!!
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Ethel Sturdevant; three children, Jenny Schuler, Peggy Wolfe and her husband, Rich and Fred Sturdevant and his companion, Kathy Wissler; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Matt and Heather Savage (Rachel, Symantha and Erika), Mike and Alicia Savage (Matthew and Ethen), Ann Marie Thomas (Brandon and Mya), Theresa and James Queen (Devon, Mykala and Sydney), Maraline and David Noack (Jonathon and Jordan), Laura Wolfe, Kate and Andrew Snow (Alex), Caryn Albrecht, Kelly and Michael Weber, Andrea Sturdevant and Nicole Sturdevant; three brothers, Frank Sturdevant, Richard Sturdevant and Phillip Sturdevant; and two sisters, Penny Harris and Laura Postma. Fred was preceded into eternal life by two sons-in-law, Richard Albrecht and Larry Schuler; two brothers, Jared and Daniel; and one sister, Sharon.

Fred’s firm and steadfast faith was a legacy he left to his family, and in this we know he is flying with the eagles and embracing the joy he is finding in Heaven.
