Roger King, age 64, of 1059-270th Street, died Monday, October 20, 2014, at his home.
Funeral services are Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethel Church, southwest of Boone with Rev. D. Ray Hoke, Rev. Tom Lee, and Rev. Jeff Thrane officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, southwest of Boone.
Roger Philip King was born in Boone on June 9, 1950, the son of Philip and JoAnn (Miller) King.
He graduated from Ogden High School in 1968 and attended Boone Junior College.
On November 28, 1970, Roger married Deborah Crouse in Boone.
In earlier years, Roger worked at the Ogden Building Materials in the lumberyard.
He also was a member of the Iowa Army National Guard in Boone and served with the 248th Aviation Battalion.
In 1978, Roger began working at Iowa State University and became Supervisor – Animal Caretaker Level 3 at the Laboratory Animal Resources.
Due to ill health, he retired this year.
Roger was a member of the Iowa State 25 Year Club and 30 Year Club, and received the Board of Regents Award for Staff Excellence and the AALAS Iowa Branch Outstanding Supervisor Award.
He served as Trinity Lutheran School PTL president, was a past member and deacon at First Evangelical Free Church in Boone, and AWANA Leader at First Evangelical Free Church.
Roger loved the farm. He enjoyed farming, feeding birds, breeding and raising lambs, experimenting with farm equipment, and reading farm magazines.
He also enjoyed Mountain Dew, vacationing in South Dakota, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Peyton Manning, and the New York Yankees.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, several aunts, uncles, and his father-in-law Leo Wisecup.
He is survived by his wife Deborah of rural Boone; two sons Roger Christopher ‘Chris’ King and wife Ruthie and Matthew King, all of Boone; one daughter Melinda King of Boone; his mother JoAnn King of Boone; two sisters Marcia Doran and husband Benjamin ‘Mike’ of Beaver and Carol Hudson and husband Larry of Miles City, Montana; granddaughters Arielle and Alaina King; his mother-in-law Sharon Wisecup of Boone; and sisters-in-law Jody Wisecup of Boone and Linda Ewing and husband Jason of Otho.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Friday from 2 until 4 p.m. and then at the Bethel Church on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present. Visitation continues Saturday at the Church from 9 a.m. until service time. The casket will be closed.
