Q: Can chiropractic care help my headaches?

Posted October 22, 2014 in Advice Column, Boone

A: Headaches and migraines are very common conditions in today’s society. There are a number of different types of headaches and migraines with multiple causes. Some underlying causes can be very serious to your health, but the most common types can be controlled with treatment.

A short list of factors that can cause headaches include poor nutrition, dehydration, inadequate blood flow, trauma, infections and commonly stress and tension. It is important for your health care provider to determine what may be causing your headaches, and several clues can be gathered from your symptom pattern and health history.

The most common types of headaches we see in the office are stress/tension type headaches. With this type of headache you often feel stiffness in your neck and shoulders, and while pain patterns can vary, there may be a dull ache or throbbing pain ranging from the base of your skull wrapping around to the front or sides of your head. Chiropractic adjustments have proven to be very effective at helping these headaches by reducing the stress and tension in the neck and muscles, therefore relieving the tension. Sinus headaches can also be relieved with adjustments, as they help open sinus passages to allow the draining of fluid and pressure from the sinus cavities.

Stop by the office to see if the headaches and migraines you suffer from can be relieved by chiropractic care.
