July 4, 1911 – October 20, 2014
Loa Nalley passed away, Monday, October 20, 2014, at Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 103 years, three months and 16 days. What a life! Loa was born July 4, 1911, on a farm in Benton, IL to Frank and Liva Crain Buntin. She loved the outdoors, the country life, farming, dancing, animals and being a tomboy. Loa rode horses in her younger days and always had numerous pets. She liked trying new things and even rode motorcycles for a time.
Loa met William Edward “Bill” Threewitt who was a grocer and they married on December 24, 1932. They had two children, Patsy and Tom. They worked together in the grocery business and on the farm for 50 years. Bill preceded her in death on June 16, 1982. Loa also had an older sister, Claudia Buntin Johnsey who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Patsy (Carrol D.) Bolen of Waukee, IA and Tom (Nancy) Threewitt of Garnett, KS; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In her last few years she was still feisty as ever and appreciated the companionship of her family and the many wonderful friends and care givers at Martina Place Assisted Living in Johnston, IA.
Loa loved going for a ride to view the crops at the farm with Carrol and Patsy and their dog, Katie. She used to say of the plants, “I just want to get down and roll in them!” She almost always had her Christmas card picture taken in the cornfield.
Loa will be greatly missed. Her wishes were to be cremated and a private family Celebration of Life to be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local animal rescue league or Martina Place Assisted Living, 5815 Winwood Dr., Johnston, Iowa 50131. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
