Autumn is here and is the best time to come to Clear Lake!! The fishing and sailing is still terrific so don’t miss out on those two great things to do. Zombies, ghouls and more … 2nd Annual Halloween Show at the Clear Lake Arts Center. Almost an all music show with a little schtick added in for good measure. Culinary Coordinator, Wendy Niccum, has a menu ‘to die for’ with Roadkill Chili, Mealworms, Bloody Bread Pudding and more. This event sold out last year. So hurry and buy your tickets today. Audience participation expected! Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Doors open at 6:30pm. Show begins at 7:00pm. Haunted Hike at D&D Ranch – October 17, 2014 – October 18, 2014. http://www.theDandDranch.com. Conveniently located off Interstate 35 in Clear Lake, Iowa, The D and D Ranch Haunted Hike has been handing out terrorizing fun for all ages for the past 12 years. Actors bring both classic and current horror figures to life in this award-winning Halloween attraction. The hike begins in the Halloween museum featuring classic characters throughout the years. Once you finish there, a haunted, wild west town awaits the brave. Groups will be able to guide themselves through an 1800’s haunted town and into the ranch’s Trail of Terror which takes you through the forest. The Haunted Hike is ranked in the top 10 Best Halloween Attractions in Iowa!  Be sure not to miss out on all of the fun. If you DARE, we will SCARE! Due to scary content, the hike will not allow anyone under the age of ten to participate without adult supervision. Family Fun Festival – October 19, 2014, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM CDT. Local Girl Scout Troop 465 is hosting this event for their community. Kid’s Carnival with tons of Prizes!! Bake Sale Jewelry Sale Pet Show – Patriot’s for Pets Fun Educational Booths – Learn more about bee keeping, making honey, rain barrels, pets and more! Best Western Hotel Ballroom. REMIX316/Crossroads – October 22, 2014, 5:15 PM – 8:00 PM CDT. First Congregational Church and the Clear Lake United Methodist Church have joined together to share Remix316 and Crossroads lead by Chris Phalen! REMIX316 is our youth program for youth 6th grade through 12th grade and “Crossroads” is a brand new worship service. Our official launch date was September 3rd. The location will alternate with Wednesdays in September being held at the First Congregational Church and Wednesdays in October held at the Methodist Church and on an alternate basis every month. The times will remain the same: Remixer Meal 5:15-5:45 pm; REMIX EVENT 5:45-6:45 pm; Supper for Everyone 6:00 pm; CROSSROADS-7:00-8:00 pm. Location will alternate between the First Congregational Church and the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. Every Wednesday starting at 5:15. African Children’s Choir – October 22, 2014, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM CDT http://www.congregationalclearlake.com. The African Children’s Choir melts the hearts of audiences with their charming smiles, beautiful voices and lively African songs and dance! The Choir is made up of some of the neediest and most vulnerable children in Africa. Many have lost one or both parents, but they have not given up hope and have come to show the beauty, dignity and potential of each African child! E.B.Stillman 1601 3rd Ave. N. Clear Lake, IA 50428. Downtown Clear Lake – Visit our unique shops, offering a surprising array of items for you to choose from.  We have been told that our retail shops in Clear Lake are not only unique but outstanding.  Come to Clear Lake & see for yourself!!

Lakeside Restaurants – Clear Lake offers an abundance of great dining venues.  Here are several that are on the Lake: Ge-Jo’s by the Lake, The Landing, PM Park, The Muskie Lounge, The Other Place, District 619, The Anchor Inn, Half-Moon and many more for your dining pleasure.

Surf Ballroom & Museum – One of the most sought out places for visitors to Clear Lake. You can visit the historic Surf Ballroom during the week to see the location of where Buddy Holly & the Crickets, J. P. “the Big Bopper” Richardson, and Richie Valens performed their final concert, “the day the music died,” before their tragic plane crash five miles from Clear Lake on that fateful night in February, 1959.  The Surf still has numerous live musical performances and has been ranked one of the top 12 music venues in the United States for 2012 by Rolling Stone Magazine. Plus it has a terrific gift shop and a Wall of Fame you can view. Guided tours for groups are available.  Visit the Surf for music history and great memories!

City Beach– rated as one of the top 50 beaches in the United States by USA Today. A little slice of heaven where beaches are concerned!!

McIntosh Woods State Park – a 60 acre mecca for campers, where you can also rent “yurts,” go fishing, swimming or boating or picnicking. Reservations are required, tool-free 1-800-427-2757.

Clear Lake State Park – another gem for camping (176 campsites), a beautiful 900-foot beach, great for picnicking, fishing or boating.  You can also use the day lodge for meeting or gatherings.  Reservations are required, 1-800-427-2527.

City Park – This is the location in downtown Clear Lake, right off of the Lake where most of the community activities and events are held.  It has playground equipment and a beautiful band shell as well as picnic tables and benches.  Come relax and enjoy our beautiful City Park, and then stroll through downtown Clear Lake for shopping and dining.

Central Gardens of North Iowa. Explore one of the most unique gardening experiences in the state of Iowa with a walking tour of our beautiful Central Gardens, open to the public and at no cost, located at 800 2nd Ave. in Clear Lake.
