Des Moines, Iowa… Taking the expression “singing for food” literally, area musicians will come together for a 10th anniversary show at two separate locations the weekend of November 8th and 9th to raise money for the DMARC Food Pantry.
“The scope of this concert and the food pantry’s needs have grown exponentially,” says Jennifer Shide, the organizer of the event. “It’s a great time to enjoy some music in a family-friendly environment, while helping those in need.”
This year’s anniversary show, a 90-minute free concert event, includes contemporary, rock and gospel music, and will feature three groups:
- We Got Male – a men’s choir with members from around the Des Moines area
- We Got Female – an all-female choir from around the Des Moines area
- Youth Choir – vocal performance students and youth from Union Park United Methodist Church
It will include over 100 individual participants ranging in age from 9 to over 80 and multiple solo and group acts. Attendees will also see a performance by one of the Des Moines area’s longest standing gospel groups, The Ambassadors.
The Harvest Concert Dates:
Saturday, November 8th – 7pm at Union Park United Methodist Church (2305 E. 12th St., Des Moines, IA 50316)
Sunday, November 9th – 2pm at First Christian Church (2500 University Ave., Des Moines, IA 50311)
About the Harvest Concert..
The Harvest Concert began in 2005, with a goal of giving back to the community by raising money for the Des Moines Area Religious Council’s (DMARC) Food Pantry. What started as a small idea, raising $2,000 in its first year, has grown into one of DMARC’s largest annual fundraisers – totaling $54,993.86 over nine years of concerts.
Last year, the Harvest Concert, through voluntary contributions, raised $13,150. Every dollar raised goes directly to the DMARC Food Pantry, where $1 can purchase $3 worth of food for Des Moines area families in need.
