Introducing ZINIO’s Downloadable Magazines
The Library is pleased to announce that we have entered a consortium with other public libraries in central Iowa to provide downloadable magazines.  Just look on the left side of our homepage, http://www.winterset.lib.ia.us, and you will find ZINIO!  The magazines can be downloaded to your eReaders, laptops, and other portable devices.  Browse and read articles from top news, entertainment, lifestyle and travel magazines, such as National Geographic, Us, Newsweek, Seventeen, and Cosmopolitan.

Library Board of Trustees to meet on October 15, 6:30 pm, at the Library
The Library is governed by a 7-member, voluntary Board of Trustees, appointed by the Mayor and City Council.  The Library Board of Trustees meets monthly on the third Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the Library.  The meeting is open to the public, in keeping with the Iowa Code regarding open meetings.

Cooking with Annie has a Guest Chef, Joyce Westphal, Oct 25, 10:00 am, Library
Joyce Westphal, Clinical Director at Crossroads Behavioral Health, will present “Healthy Soups”
on Oct 25, at 10:00 am in the Library.  Joyce enjoys cooking and eating for health and wellness.

Halloween at the Library
The Library will participate in the downtown Trick or Treat on October 30, from 3:30-5:00, and we have some treats!  We always love to see the costumes, and hope you have some great jokes to tell us.

Children’s Story-Times
Toddlers, we know you are busy, but don’t forget to bring your parents to Toddler Tuesdays for ages 0-2 on Tuesdays at 10:30 am.  For preschoolers ages 3 and up, Library Story-Times are on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30.  The Library loves to see these little ones who are learning so rapidly in every setting.  Reading is recognized as contributing to the health and well-being of every child, and pediatricians are recommending reading for their little patients.  At the Library, besides meeting new friends, they are also learning to love good stories, and how to pay attention in a group setting — good preparation for Kindergarten!  Parents, due to our upcoming construction project, please call the Library on the morning of our story-times to make sure that we will be holding the program.

Thank-you to the librarians & Clyde Chrisman – “The Library Rocks!!” really did rock!
The Covered Bridge Festival was a great success at the Library tent in Monumental Park.  The Library participated in the city-wide collaboration of family-oriented activities, called the Timeless Treasure Hunt.  We identified rocks, and hunted for historical treasures important to Madison County, and painted our own Timeless Treasures.  And rock hound Clyde Chrisman told about his beautiful rock collection.

Library Repairs – Thank you for your understanding during our messy building repairs
Interior work has begun in the meeting room (zone A).  We intend for the Library to be open as much as possible, during our usual hours.  Watch for signage on the sidewalks to guide you into the Library.  For the most current information, please watch the Madisonian, the Library web-site http://www.winterset.lib.ia.us, and “friend” the Winterset Public Library on Facebook.  And please do use the phone to find out if we are open.  The back parking lot is blocked & that book return is closed and locked.  Remember, there’s a book return in the lobby accessible from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Friday & Saturday.  And also good to remember … we are being very lenient on fines during this time when the Library is less accessible, although of course we always appreciate it if you can get your materials returned on time.
