Iola Doty, age 81, of Ames and formerly of Stratford, died October 6, 2014, at the Riverside North Community Nursing Home in Ames.
A Visitation will be Thursday, October 9, 2014, at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall from 2 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m.
Following the visitation, she will be cremated and burial will be in the Swan Cemetery in Swan at a later date.
Iola Maxine Doty was born in Malcom, Iowa, on February 21, 1933, the daughter of Elton and Ruby (Smith) Meldrem.
On February 25, 1951, Iola married Louis Doty in Newton.
Iola was a homemaker and a professional mother.
In later years, she worked as a CNA at hospitals and a volunteer for several hospice organizations.
Iola enjoyed hot tea, shopping, yard sales, feeding and watching birds, growing flowers, and in earlier years, she served as a Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed reading her magazines.
Iola is preceded in death by her parents, infant twin daughters Katherine and Kathelene, a brother Richard, and sisters Helen and Faye.
She is survived by her husband Louis of Ames; a son David Doty of Granville; three daughters, Janice Albracht and husband Richard of Woodward, Joyce Bricker and husband Jim of Stratford, and Joan Doty of Cosmos, Minnesota; nine grandchildren: Dillon, Lucas, Daniel, David, Todd, Troy, Rosa, Louisa, and Grasiela; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
