Phil Isley and Shawna Barton’s home is surrounded by nature and has plenty of room for their family.

Phil Isley had been living in a wonderful home on Rio Valley Drive in Clive for the last six years when it was time for his family to grow. He had chosen the home in order to be in the West Des Moines school district for his daughter, Amelie, and as fate would have it, it was an ideal location for Shawna Barton and her daughters, Shiara and Lux.

The two moved in together and now their happy home is full of life with daughters Shiara, Lux and Amelie and the newest member to join the family, baby Harrison. Of course, no home is complete without a furry addition to the family and their Siamese cat and a sweet rescue dog round out the family dynamic nicely.

With a full house, it is nice to have a home with a little character and charm. The vaulted ceilings, spiral staircase, and two fireplaces give the home a very,“unique and retro” feel, as Barton describes it.

“You can see our main support beams” which are made of a “really cool wood,” a feature Barton adores.

“My favorite room in the house is the family room in the basement,” she says. “It has a walk-out, and there is a lot of nature in our backyard. We have deer out there almost every day. We have a big couch down there so we can all sit and watch movies.”

The pair is currently working on finishing the basement and re-landscaping the front and back yards, a constantly changing home for a growing and active family.

imageIn addition to a beautiful home, Barton loves the neighborhood.

“It’s quiet, crime is very low, and everything you need is right here,” she says.

The family loves that the bike trail entrances are just a few houses down, and the neighborhood parks are within walking distance, which is ideal for their active family. With their eldest off to college and two young daughters, 13 and 9, and an 8-month-old son living in the home, a little time outside in nature is a must. The neighborhood is friendly and welcoming with an eclectic mix of young families and grandparents.

“We have a big mix of older and younger generations,” Barton explains. “I love our neighborhood. It is really quiet even though we are close to the Interstate and University. I love when I’m driving and the neighbors always wave at us.”

A wonderfully friendly community for a wonderfully friendly family — the perfect fit.
