Millie Rose, 88, died Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Urbandale Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 9, at Iles-Westover Chapel, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
Millie was born on December 26, 1925, in Creston, Iowa to Frank and Olga (Gerza) Rose. She graduated from Creston High School in 1943. In 1946 she followed her sister, Jeri, to Des Moines and took a job as a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell. Millie loved Northwestern Bell and the people she worked with. Her career flourished and she retired in 1982 with 36 years of service. Millie remained active with the Telephone Pioneers which allowed her to continue her treasured friendships with her fellow co-workers.
Millie enjoyed traveling and took a trip in 1965 to Bombay, India to visit her sister and brother-in-law who was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. Millie had an adventurous spirit and visited Havana, Cuba; World Fairs in Seattle and New York City; and never missed an opportunity to pack her suitcase for the next adventure.
Millie was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, bought a new car every two years, and loved horse racing and dancing. You could find her at the Val-Air Ballroom dancing her heart away. Her friends will always remember her stylish appearance and affinity for clothes.
Millie is survived by her sister, Jeri (Bob) Garvin, nieces, Kathleen (Dick) Garvin-Dunbar and Karyn Garvin; her great-nephew, Robert Garvin, and her great-great-nephew, Bobby Garvin all of Tucson, AZ.
