Covered Bridge Festival is fast approaching – “The Library Rocks!!”
On Saturday, October 11, 9-5:00, the Library will participate in the city-wide collaboration of family-oriented activities, called the Timeless Treasure Hunt. And guess what the Library theme is for the Festival: “The Library Rocks!!” The Library will have a tent in Monumental Park, just south of the Library, and we will be identifying rocks, making crafts with rocks, and doing a treasure hunt for timeless treasures that are important to the history of Madison County. Local rock aficionado, Clyde Chrisman, will be telling about his beautiful rock collection on Saturday, from 10-noon and 1-3:00.
Book Discussion Group, October 9, 7:00 pm, at the Library
September’s book discussion was re-set for October 9 at 7:00 pm. “Great House,” by Nicole Krauss, is a power-packed series of stories about a huge desk and the fates of the families that owned it. JoEllen Giles will lead the discussion. As always, it is free and open to the public.
Friends of the Library, October 9, 6:30 pm, at the Library
Come one, come all … if you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, Friends of the Library can fill the bill. Friends have been spending evenings on North Door Duty at the Library, enabling the Library to stay open during our massive repair project. Thanks, Friends!!! The monthly meeting will be held at the Library on October 9 at 7:00 pm, and we will be making plans for Library Lights, the Christmas tree silent-auction to be held during the city-wide Holiday Hop in November. Come find out what it’s all about. Friends of the Library is a membership 501(c)(3) charitable organization, wholly dedicated to support of the Winterset Public Library.
Toddlers, we know you are busy, but don’t forget to bring your parents to Toddler Tuesdays for ages 0-2 on Tuesdays at 10:30 am. For preschoolers ages 3 and up, Library Story-Times are on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30. The Library loves to see these little ones who are learning so rapidly in every setting. Reading is recognized as contributing to the health and well-being of every child, and pediatricians are recommending reading for their little patients. At the Library, besides meeting new friends, they are also learning to love good stories, and how to pay attention in a group setting — good preparation for Kindergarten! Parents, due to our upcoming construction project, please call the Library on the morning of our story-times to make sure that we will be holding the program.
Library Repairs – Thank you for your understanding during our messy building repairs
Interior work has begun in the meeting room (zone A). We intend for the Library to be open as much as possible, during our usual hours. We don’t have an air conditioner or a boiler, which may cause a few closures due to hot or cold working conditions. Watch for signage on the sidewalks to guide you into the Library. For the most current information, please watch the Madisonian, the Library web-site http://www.winterset.lib.ia.us, and “friend” the Winterset Public Library on Facebook. And please do use the phone to find out if we are open. The back parking lot is blocked & that book return is closed and locked. Remember, there’s a book return in the lobby accessible from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Friday & Saturday. And also good to remember … we are being very lenient on fines during this time when the Library is less accessible, although of course we always appreciate it if you can get your materials returned on time.
