Richard “Rick” Blass, 60, of Ankeny, passed away September 28, 2014 at his home after a long illness.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.) A celebration of his life will be held following, at 2:30 p.m., also at the funeral home.

Rick was born July 4, 1954 in Algona, Iowa to Hans and Hazel (Kooker) Blass. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1972, and went on to attend Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, where he met his wife to be, Sue. He graduated from I.L.C.C. and went home to work on the family farm for a year. He then went to the University of Iowa where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Soon after, he attended Drake University and earned a degree in Accounting.

Rick was hired as a bank examiner by the Federal Home Loan Bank and continued in that position under the OTS for 15 years. He then worked as a compliance officer and consultant in the banking industry.

He was an avid Hawkeye fan, and Nascar fan. He enjoyed international travel, dining out, and most of all spending time with his family and friends.

Rick is survived by his wife, Sue, children, Angie of Cornelius, NC, and Aaron (Angel) Blass of Ankeny; 4 wonderful grandchildren, Colben, Maya, Anya, and Selah; 2 sisters, Doris (Ken) Anderson of Ocean Park, WA, and Susan Blass of Lancaster, WI; his mother-in-law, Shirley Swisher of Spirit Lake, brother-in-law Joe (Robyn) Swisher of Estherville, and 5 Nieces.

Memorials may be made to Multiple Myeloma at The American Cancer Society, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or the American Heart Association.
