Janice Smith, age 76, of 1128 Hancock Drive, died at her home on September 29, 2014. Her wishes were to be cremated.
A graveside service will be Saturday, October 4, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at the Linwood Park Cemetery with Chaplain Shawna Beeman officiating. Burial will follow the service.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m.
Janice was born in Boone on July 7, 1938, the daughter of Arthur and Theodora (Buckingham) Patten.
She graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids.
On January 22, 1956, Janice married John ‘Jack’ Smith in Boone.
For many years, Janice worked as a secretary for Bourns in Ames.
After she retired, she worked as a secretary for the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad.
Janice enjoyed reading, feeding and watching birds, and having lunch and spending time with family and friends.
In earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with her mother and daughter Jacquelynn.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister Julane.
Janice is survived by two daughters, Jacquelynn Smith and Jill Smith Ginther and husband Craig all of Boone; a sister, Betty Miller of Boone; three grandchildren, Stefanie Lovin and husband Brent of West Des Moines, Sean Foster and companion Megan Cline of Ankeny, and Cale Smith and wife Adria of Des Moines; two great grandchildren, Madi Lovin and Stella Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
