December 11, 1924 – September 24, 2014
Roy was born to Raymond and Edna (Rife) Meyers on December 11, 1924, in Franklin County, PA, and left this life at the home of Jim and Sally Meyers in rural Dallas Center, Iowa on September 24, 2014. He was the fourth of ten children. Roy grew up in southern Pennsylvania in various communities as the family moved frequently as his father found farm related jobs to provide for the family. He was a teenager when he began working for local farmers and he helped support the family.
A few years later, he met Ada Eby when she came to Pennsylvania to visit. He moved to Iowa and they were married on June 17, 1948. Roy worked for his father-in-law for two years on his farm. Several years later, he would buy that same farm and lived there the rest of his life. To this union were born five children: John Meyers (Claudia), Diane Pifer (Fred), Dale Meyers (Janie), Jim Meyers (Sally), and Lee Meyers (Sandra).
Roy, along with his wife, gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ and was baptized into the Dallas Center Dunkard Brethren Church in August, 1961. He was installed as a deacon in 1964 and served faithfully in that capacity for 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Janet and brother, Robert. Surviving are his wife and children, his sister, Mildred, and six brothers, Reuben, Thomas, Daniel, Martin, John, and David; as well as 28 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2014, at the Dunkard Brethren Church near Dallas Center with burial to follow at the Brethren Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 p.m. Sunday, September 28, at the Dunkard Brethren Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, Christian Aid Ministries or Dunkard Brethren Mission Board. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.Com.
