Esther May Schoff Barnhart, age 101, of Boone, passed away peacefully September 25, 2014 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home where she lived the last 23 years.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Trinity Lutheran Church; 712 12th Street, Boone, Iowa from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Memorial services will follow the visitation at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Private family inurnment will take place at Linwood Cemetery, Boone, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church for Radio Broadcast or Gentiva Hospice.
Esther was born May 23, 1913 in Frazee, Minnesota, the daughter of Herman Ready and Ottilia Bressler.
On August 7, 1931, she married William Schoff Jr. in Moorhead, Minnesota. William passed away in November of 1971. In January of 1973, Esther married C.J. Barnhart of Ames, Iowa.
Esther worked as a meter maid in Clinton and Ames until retirement. She then moved to Boone after the death of her 2nd husband.
Esther was active in her church and the R.S.V.P. in Ames, and she was among the original organizing members of the R.S.V.P. in Boone.
Esther had a great love for quilting, crochet work, knitting, and reading. She also loved to give back to her community by helping others and did a great amount of volunteer services.
Esther is survived by four children – Elizabeth Nelson, Valenette (Ed) Heldt, Roland (Beverly) Schoff, and Evelyn (Roy) Stockman, Ten grandchildren – Lisa Ballentine, Gary (Debbie) Nelson, Melanie (Ray) Williams, Mike (Lynda) Heldt, Rick (Teresa) Heldt, Kim Uthe, Karyl (Gene) Jones, Alan (Jennifer) Schoff, Kevin (Darla) Stockman, and Kris (Kern) Marlowe, twenty-one great grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren.
