Who was MacKinlay Kantor?

MacKinlay Kantor is the most famous author to hail from Webster City. Come to the library on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. to learn more about his life, his writing and his roots in Webster City. Local historian Nancy Kayser will present the program about this remarkable person. Then, join us on Monday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. for a special showing of the 1966 Disney movie “Follow Me, Boys!” based on Kantor’s book about his experiences as a Boy Scout with Scoutmaster Murray McMurray.

Upcoming programs
Book discussion: On Tuesday, Sept. 23 at noon the library’s book club is discussing banned books in conjunction with national Banned Books Week. Everyone is invited to select a banned book to read before the meeting. Books are available at the checkout desk.  Everyone is welcome.
DIY Club: Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. Create a fun, festive pumpkin out of book materials. All materials will be provided at no cost.
Special Movie Showing: “Follow Me, Boys!” (G). Monday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. Enjoy the movie on our big screen. Pop and popcorn provided. All ages welcome.
Adult Movie: “Draft Day” (PG-13). Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. Enjoy the movie on our big screen. Pop and popcorn provided.

Teen Programming
Teen Lounge: Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30 p.m. when school is in session. Snacks, games, laptops and activities. All teens (grades six-12) are welcome.

Children’s programming
Toddler Storytime: First Wednesday of the month (Oct. 1), 10:15-10:45 a.m. (Ages 2-3 years with adult, siblings welcome.)
Preschool Storytime: Tuesdays, now – Sept. 30, 10:05-10:35 a.m. (Ages 3-5 years.)
Crafty Readers: Thursdays, now – Sept. 25, 3:45-4:45 p.m. (PreK – first grade.)
Science Club: Tuesdays, now – Sept. 30, 4-5 p.m. (Second – fifth grade.)
Lego Fun Club: Last Tuesday of every month (Sept. 30), 4-5 p.m. (Kindergarten – fifth grade.)
Saturday Morning Children’s Movies are shown every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon for all ages. Children younger than kindergarten should be accompanied by an adult. Sept. 20: “Muppets Most Wanted” (PG); Sept. 27: “Inkheart” (PG); Oct. 4: “Rio” (G); Oct. 11: “Alpha & Omega 3 and Toy Story of Terror” (G); Oct. 18: DisneyNature’s “Bears” (G); Oct. 25: “Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World” (PG).
