October 16, 1919 – September 13, 2014
Lawrence Woodrow Rissman, full of years, finished his earthly pilgrimage on September 13, 2014.
He was born a farm kid in Abilene Kansas October 16, 1919 to Paul and Bertha Rissman, and died in a different century.
Larry attended Missouri State College, and served his country in WWII, Guam and the S. Pacific. He came to DSM to work for a local construction company and met and married Paula some 65 years ago. They had 3 kids, 7 grandkids and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was a great father, a great Grandfather and a great support to the family.
Douglas Ave. Presbyterian Church was an integral part of their lives for many years.
Larry was a sweet natured man, He loved his grandkids and he loved fishing (especially at Sun Valley Lake).
Larry managed CL Carroll Co. for 50+ years and successfully passed it on to his son Jon. These last years were very hard with progressive Parkinson’s disease.
We are thankful this part of Larry’s journey has come to an end. We celebrate his life and the gifts he gave us.
Larry was preceded in death by four brothers and his parents. He is survived by his wife Paula, children Jeff (Susie), Loree Miles (Dave) and Jon (Cherie).
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 16 at 12:00 pm at Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church 4601 Douglas Ave with visitation one hour prior to services and lunch to follow. Memorial Contributions may be made to the church or Parkinson’s foundation.
