Ed Beltrame was born September 7, 1912 in San Lorenzo, provience of Udine in the region of Friuli, Italy to Oswaldo and Margherita (Aita) Beltrame. The family lived in various places in central Iowa before settling in Des Moines on the south side along with other Friuli Italians. He graduated from Dowling Catholic Academy, worked at Iowa Packing Company and in the 1940’s was a United Packing Union Representative. Ed worked as an Union Organizer in the southeast part of the U.S. and later in various parts of the Midwest. He retired in 1974 and took up residence in Lowell, MI near Grand Rapids. Ed moved to Des Moines in 2002 and lived at Beaverdale Estates until June of 2014, when he moved to Ramsey Village Health Center.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Velma (Faino) Beltrame; his sisters: Olga (Pio) Cartara, Rose (Camilo) Quijano, Mary (Frank) Quijano; brother, Arthur (Mildred) Beltrame; and wife, Olga “Jo” Beltrame.

Edward is survived by his three children: Eddie (Mary) Beltrame, Larry (Gina) Beltrame, and Dee (Michael) Bennett of Bradenton, Florida; along with four grandchildren: Renee, Julie, Andrew, and Marc; nine great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; one step-great great grandchild; brother, Richard Beltrame; companion, Veta Schauf; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2014 at Tonini Funeral Home, 2135 SW 9th Street, with visitation beginning at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. Anthony’s Foundation, Mercy Hospice, or the Italian Cultural Center.
