Total transformation

Julie and Bart Baudler moved into their five-bedroom Boesen home in 2000. During the 14 years they’ve lived there, they have renovated almost every square foot of their property inside and out.

One of the biggest transformations can be seen in their backyard.  They took an ordinary lawn and transformed it into a beautiful outdoor living space.  By planting trees along their fence, they have created a private retreat that houses a covered patio with built-in seating and a stone fireplace, a bar and grill area and a stunning pool.

The Baudlers outdoor upgrades also included a total makeover to the outside of their home. Colin King of K and V Homes helped to enhance the curb appeal by adding new stone, siding and stylized garage doors.   An addition to the garage combines both form and function, giving them ample storage space for all that comes with a family of six.

The same attention to detail can be seen inside the Baudler’s home as well. After changing all of the flooring and paint, Julie designed a custom coffered ceiling for their kitchen. This elegant, all-white feature creates a beautiful contrast to the deep, rich wood of the kitchen cabinets. The great room off of the kitchen boasts vaulted ceilings, warm built-ins and access to their outdoor space.

While Bart and Julie spend most of their time on the main floor, their four children have claimed the basement as their own. In this cool and quiet place they are able to have sleepovers with friends, watch movies and play video games. The all-stone fireplace, flat screen TV and bar area for snacks helps to create the perfect “kid zone” in the Baudler home.

The Baudlers have also turned a patio into an oversized mudroom and have taken a portion of their large master bedroom to enlarge Julie’s walk-in closet. The master bathroom has been completely redone, and they have added a fireplace and built-ins to Julie’s light-filled office right off the front door.

It has taken 14 years for the Baudlers to create their own oasis from the world, and while Bart doesn’t enjoy the renovation as much as Julie, he is definitely supportive of her projects.

“You can make a home your own over the years,” Julie says of all the work and planning they’ve put into their own property.

Bart works for Pioneer as central unit business director and Julie is a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker.
