With his smart phone and its Internet access, email, camera and phone, Realtor Jon Niemeyer has everything he needs to make his office mobile. And when he backs out of his garage in his fuel efficient Smart car, he looks forward to saving money on gas as he criss-crosses town helping buyers find their next home.
“I drive a lot in my business, so it just makes sense,” says Niemeyer. “The money I save on gas helps me keep my costs down, and it’s fun to drive, too.”
Niemeyer’s Smart car is a two-seat, one-liter engine car built by Mercedes Benz. The unique car has been in production for 15 years, but has only recently gained traction in the United States, due to its small size and unique look.
The original concept was created by the CEO of Swatch, Nicholas Heyek, who believed there was a need for a small, efficient city car. It was built and used to promote the Swatch brand in the 1980s. In 1998, Mercedes Benz started producing the vehicle and opened it up to world-wide distribution.
Embracing the quirky look of the car, the company encourages owners to customize the look of the vehicle to match their own personality with colorful paint, custom wheels and bright vehicle wraps.
Niemeyer’s Smart car has a look all its own and has been completely customized with a full-body wrap. He is easily recognized as he drives around town in his car covered in EXIT Realty colors and signage.
“It’s a great marketing tool too,” he says. “The car attracts a lot of attention, not just because of its size and shape, but because it’s so colorful.”
