Vera Sue Lovelady, 85, lost her courageous battle with cancer on September 6, 2014. Sue was born in Lamar, Arkansas on June 20, 1929 to Herbert and Nola (Garrigus) Lemley. Her family moved to Oklahoma in the early 30’s where she graduated from Checotah High School. She was married to Ray Lovelady in 1947. To this union were born three sons: Larry, Alan and Mark.
Sue was a homemaker most of her life and occasionally worked outside the home. She loved traveling and fishing with her husband in retirement, but most of all she loved being with her family. Sue lived in Urbandale, Iowa and was a faithful attendee at New Hope Assembly of God Church in Urbandale, where she had many dear friends.
Sue is survived by sons, Alan (Connie) of Des Moines, IA and Mark (Julie) of Urbandale; her sister, Lucille Cairns of Checotah, OK; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ray; infant son, Larry and older brothers, Dr. Joe Lemley and Eugene Lemley.

Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 at Iles Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA 50322. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014 at New Hope Assembly of God Church 4425 – 70th Street, Urbandale, IA 50322. Visitation will be from 11-12:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 12, 2014 Garrett Funeral Home 311 SW 2nd Street, in Checotah, Oklahoma followed by a graveside service at 12:30 p.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery in her hometown of Checotah, OK.
Memorial contributions may be made to her church in memory of Sue.
