Zella A. Yearian, 98, passed away Friday, August 29, 2014 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at West Des Moines Christian Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Zella was born in Agency, Iowa the daughter of Commadore and Effie Warder. She grew up in Wapello County, graduated from Cedar High School and moved to Des Moines in 1947. Zella worked for J.C. Penney’s, was a homemaker, worked in both of the family businesses: Clover Hill Shell Station and their Auto Repair Shop on Railroad Avenue, and sold Avon products for several years working into her 90’s.

She was an active and longtime member at West Des Moines Christian Church and Ramsey Guild, and was a member of the Red Hat Society, West Des Moines Women’s Club and Valley Junction O.E.S. #305.

She is survived by two sons, David (Barbara) Yearian of Des Moines and Jan Yearian of Cumming, Iowa; daughter, Sharon Messamaker of Albia, Iowa; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Warner of Jamesport, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Harold (Elsie) Davis of Knoxville, Iowa; and many other relatives. Zella was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, two brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren’s Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to West Des Moines Christian Church or Hospice Kavanagh House.
