The Friends of the Perry Public Library would like to invite you to join their membership. The Friends’ organization was started to support, sustain and enhance the library’s services to the community. Without the support of the Friends, the library would not be able to offer the programs, technology and collections that make the library a great place to visit.
The majority of the funding for the summer reading program came from the Friends. Other projects funded by the Friends in the past year include the coin-operated copier, program craft supplies, the Book Page, the book preview magazine distributed in the library, the courtesy coffee available in library for patrons, courtesy refreshments for programs, the Chocolate Walk supplies and the Halloween Spooktacular candy.
In addition, the Friends provide cookies throughout National Library Week to our patrons, decorate the library for the holidays and volunteer for special events and programs at the library.
As an added feature this year, all completed membership forms returned to the library by Sept. 30 will be entered into a drawing for $50 worth of Perry Bucks.
Dallas County Reads 1 Book
An exciting and brand new literary event in Dallas County is fast approaching. The Dallas County Library Association presents Dallas County Reads 1 Book! on Oct. 7. The 12 libraries in Dallas County are welcoming author William Kent Krueger to Perry, Iowa for a special visit highlighting his award-winning novel, “Ordinary Grace.”
This two-part event opens at Hotel Pattee at 5:30 p.m. with an author read and meet, including hors d’oeuvres and beverages. Tickets for this limited-attendance event are $10 and may be purchased at your local library or at the door for $15. The second part of this event will be held at the Perry Performing Arts Center, located in Perry High School, at 7 p.m. for an author talk. This portion of the event is free.
Everyone in Dallas County is encouraged to read “Ordinary Grace” during September and October and participate in book discussions and related programs held throughout the county. The Perry Public Library will hold its book discussion in the Clarion Room of the Security State Bank Building on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. Perry Library Director Mary Murphy hopes you will take advantage of this great opportunity to read a great book, participate in the book discussion, come meet the author at the Hotel Pattee or come to the free public event.
