Iola Fern Bonnette, age 86, of Scranton passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Greene County Long Term Care in Jefferson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Church of Christ in Scranton with Pastor Bob McKnight officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Laura McKnight. Casket bearers will be Jamie Loeffler, Jimmy Barber, Brian Burris, Kenny Joe Bonnette, Dan Winger, and Tony Joe Nunez. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.

Born on August 24, 1928 at Adaza, IA, she was the daughter of James and Nadine (Steward) Spaulding. She attended country school near Scranton as a girl. She was married to Everett James Baumann on January 25, 1946 at the Friends Church near Scranton. Everett passed away in 1959. She was later remarried to Alva Kenneth Bonnette Sr. and the couple made their home in Omaha where they raised their family. Iola worked as a supervisor for Campbell Soup for many years. The couple moved to Lake Village Arkansas in 1981 where they owned and operated Bonnette Grocery Store until Alva’s death in 1984. Iola moved back to Scranton following Alva’s death to be close to her family. Iola traveled with her daughters and her sister Eva to many places over the years. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her delicious pies. She loved her home and family and her two dogs Barney and Bella. She was the best Mom and Gram anyone could ever have.

Iola is survived by four daughters: Sandra Ann Burris of Scranton, Connie Lee Loeffler of Scranton, Annette Marie Winger and her husband Michael of Scranton, and Vera Mae Kroener and her husband Jeff of Sac City; Avis and Sam of Scranton; her grandchildren: Tony, Suzette, Lenny “Boy”, Brian, Katie, Jamie, Christian “Red”, Jimmy, Kenny Joe, Angela, Carly, Ashley, and Daniel; twenty great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; three sisters: Eva Gustoff of Jefferson, Rose Ann Huffman of Jefferson, and Maudie Ganoe of Scranton; three brothers: Jerry Spaulding of Jefferson, Frank Spaulding of Des Moines, and Chris Spaulding of Jefferson; and many nieces and nephews.

Iola was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: Everett Baumann and Alva Bonnette Sr., a son Alva Kenneth Bonnette Jr., a daughter Vicki Sue Nunez, three children in infancy: Judy Kay, Kimberly Kay, and Andrew James, a grandson Corey Barbee, three brothers: Bill Spaulding, Jimmy Spaulding, and Norman Spaulding, and a sister Lavola Bailey.
