Bring on fall!

Posted September 03, 2014 in Adel, Community Featured

The month of September is exciting for all of us here at the Adel Public Library. School is back in session, which means we have resumed our normal library programming. Ms. Paula and Ms. Laura have been working hard to plan several fun and exciting events throughout the month of September.

Between the Sweet Corn Festival and the book sale, we had a great wrap-up of August here at the library. Our annual book sale, which took place on Aug. 8 and 9, was a success again this year. The library did more than $2000.00 in book sales. The money will go toward next year’s summer reading program. Everyone here at the library wants to extend a big thank you to those who donated their books and their time; we couldn’t have done this sale without you.

Although August was a success, we couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming fall season. Children’s activities are back and better than ever. Story Time for 3- to 5-year-olds will be held on Mondays, Toddler Time for children 3 and younger will be held on Tuesdays, and Music Time for all children will meet on Thursdays. All programs will begin at 10:30 a.m. We hope to see everyone there.

Sept. 10 is an early out, so we invite kids to attend our Early Out Movie at 2 p.m. We will be showing “Muppets Most Wanted.” We will also be hosting a Teen Volunteer Meeting at 3 p.m. on this day.

The Stiletto Girls are coming to our library on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Magnolia “Maggie” Rivers, C. Deanne Row and Angela K. Roe will be here to discuss their Stiletto Series, answer questions, and even shed light on how to publish your own book.

Everyone at Adel Public Library is patiently waiting for author William Kent Krueger to visit Perry on Oct. 7. To get ready for this exciting read and meet and author talk, we are participating in Dallas County Reads One Book. All of Dallas County is encouraged to read Krueger’s new book, “Ordinary Grace,” between Sept. 25 and Oct. 23. We will have our Evening Book Club on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. to kick off this exciting new novel.

The library will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 1. To stay up to date on all library news and events, by sure and check out our website, www.adelpl.org, and our Facebook page.
