Ankeny Aquahawks swim coach does an 11 mile open water swim this weekend to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma research.
As a way of raising money to offset medical cost for his nephew, Wade, who has Leukemia, and as a way to raise money to find cancer treatments for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Greg Moyle, will be challenging himself physically in honor of those kids who have no choice in the daily challenges they face.
“After attending Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) events this year in honor of my nephew, Wade, I wanted to do more to help both Wade’s family and LLS,” said Moyle. “I decided to do my longest swim ever – an eleven mile loop course at Big Creek in Polk City – to raise awareness.”
Greg, who’s been a swim coach with the Ankeny Aquahawks for the past seven years, estimates the swim will take him 4 1/2 hours to complete. He will begin his swim at 8:30 am this Sunday, September 7th.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
