Book and bake sale

Shop for great, inexpensive books and delectable baked goods. The Friends semi-annual book and bake sale will be held on Saturday, April 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the meeting room of your Waukee Public Library. Tax-deductible book sale donations may be dropped off at the library during regular open hours. Please, no textbooks or encyclopedias.

Interested in joining the Friends? Annual membership is $7 for seniors or full-time students, $15 for household or $25 – $500 for contributing members. Book sale and membership profits are used for programs, materials and improvements at your library.

Dallas County Toddler Fest
Free event for toddlers and caregivers. Saturday, April 12, 10 a.m. to noon at the Dallas County Fairgrounds in Adel. Some of the participants and activities will include Science Center of Iowa, Blank Park Zoo, Kids Pics ID cards, Trooper the therapy dog, Storytime with the Ice Princess, airbrush tattoos, face painter, crafts and many area agencies.  Each toddler will receive a free book. Sponsored by 4RKids and the Dallas County Library Association.

Free Community Shred Day
Info Dog Security and Waukee Public Library are hosting free document shredding on Saturday, April 19, from 9 – 11 a.m. Please limit yourself to two boxes. Staples and paper clips are OK.  A professional shred truck will be in the parking lot of Waukee Middle School (across from the library) to shred personal and confidential documents on site.

April adult programs
Author visit. Waukee resident Joe Millard will share stories and read poems from his new book “Savor the Seasons.” His poetry portrays a changing Iowa alive with nature. Audience members will be invited to share their stories throughout the program.  Thursday, April 24, 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments served.

Book Discussion. There’s always room for you at WPL’s book discussion group. April’s selection is “It’s Easier to get to Heaven than the End of the Street: A Jerusalem Memoir” by Emma Williams. Tuesday, April 15, 1 p.m.  Books are available at the desk. Light refreshments served.

Writer’s Group. Are you a writer? Interested in meeting with other writers to compare, collaborate, critique and expand your abilities? This is the group for you. Tuesday, April 29 at 6:30 pm.  Contact Devon for more information, or 978-7932.
