Posted March 12, 2014 in Community Featured

It’s time for Brown Bag Briefings at the Fort Dodge Public Library.  In April and October, the Friends of the Fort Dodge Public Library present interesting programs during the noon hours on Thursdays in the library meeting room. Coffee will be provided; bring your lunch or just stop by for an hour and enjoy the programs offered this spring:

Thursday, April 3: “What is the Buzz?” presented by Craig Stripling. Stripling will present a PowerPoint and Q&A program about numerous general honeybee topics including beekeeping, foraging, honeybee life cycles, pesticides and honey production.

Thursday, April 10: “Iowa’s Hidden Treasures,” presented by Dan Kaercher, retired founding editor-in-chief of Midwest Living magazine and Iowa Public Television host. He has traveled to almost all 99 counties and will share close-to-home attractions and getaways with us. This program is funded by a Humanities of Iowa grant.

Thursday, April 17: “Learn About the Galapagos Islands,” presented by Dixie Overton and Joyce O’Connell. This will be a nature talk covering birds, mammals, reptiles and flowers of the Galapagos and includes 500 photos taken in 2012.

Thursday, April 24: “Iowa’s Rivers, Water Trails, and Dams: How Iowans are Re-Inventing Their Waterways,” presented by Nate Hoogeveen, DNR. This is an educational program about river recreation in Iowa, river ecology and effects of dams on fisheries and river recreation. Bring your lunch.  Coffee provided.

Spring Story Hour registration begins Thursday, March 27 for the six-week sessions beginning April 2 and 3. Parents may stop in or call to register their preschool aged child for one of the three weekly sessions held on Wednesday mornings and Thursday mornings and afternoons. More information is available on the library’s website: www.fortdodgeiowa.org/library.

The library will participate in Money Smart Week, a national program sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank. The week’s programs will be held April 5 – 11. A kick-off program will be held at Crossroads Mall on Saturday, March 29 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Speakers and displays with information will be available in the Community Room of the mall. Stop by and ask questions about saving for retirement, investing, setting up wills and protecting the assets you have.
