Gordon “Gordy” Paullus, 82, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014. A memorial service celebrating his life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 8 at St. Mark Lutheran Church. Burial with military honors at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery will be at a later date.
Gordon was born January 25, 1932 in Hampton, IA to Edwin and Wilhelmina Paullus. He was raised on the family farm in Latimer, IA and graduated from Alexander, IA. He left to serve his country in the US Navy Air Force for 4 years. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Drake University and embarked on a career as a salesman in the carpet industry for much of his adult life. He owned Paullus Carpet Sales for many years.
Gordon married Naomi on November 2, 1985. In their retirement, they spent several years in Sun City, AZ before returning to Iowa to be closer to family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was well regarded and was loved by anyone he came into contact with. Gordon was also a proud Navy veteran.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Naomi; daughter, Tara Paullus Hackett of Omaha, NE; son, Thomas Paullus of Dallas, TX; step-daughter, Dana Scrowther of Des Moines; step-son, Denny (Debbie) Scrowther of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren, Emily and Mary Kate Hackett of Omaha, Tamra Summy of Des Moines, Jared and Olivia Scrowther of Pleasant Hill. Gordon is also survived by a brother, Wayne (Kay) Paullus; four nieces; one nephew and by many friends. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Adam Keith Paullus; parents; and his first wife, Sharon Hartin Paullus in 1997.
