Grimes Public Library facelift

Posted February 26, 2014 in Community Blogs, Grimes

Wow, have we been busy!

The Library will be going through a facelift starting the beginning of June 2014, if all works out.

After 20 years  we will be replacing carpeting, painting the walls, updating the furniture, addressing all ADA situations, and improving seating and studying areas!  We will not be adding any space, but totally utilizing and organizing what is here to be of optimum service to the Community! See attached floor plan for new layout!

However (there is always something)… we will have to vacate the premises during this process.  So, the Grimes Community Complex has welcomed us with open arms, and we will be using space there to run a small but efficient library while still offering a complete Summer Reading Program complete with all specials!  This will obviously create some cramped space situations involving our materials, but when you think about what the building will look like once we are able to move back, I guarantee, all will be worth it.  Programming will not be affected as we will have a bigger building to work with and will be able to offer programming in the kitchen area, the Banquet Hall, and Storytimes in a room of their own!

We will most likely be moving the last week of May to open up the first of June at the GCC.  All programs have already been scheduled and rooms reserved for programs.  (Once again, thank you to all involved at the GCC, Brett, Alissa, and Park Board, you are sooo kind!)

Of course, we will not be able to take all of our materials with us, and what cannot go will be put into storage during the remodel. We are still working on that problem.  If anyone has a space they will not be using and could offer the room to us from June to possibly end of September that we could store library items,  please let us know.  We are going to have to move most everything (there will be a lot that will be re-used of course) but much will have to be moved to make way for the work to take place.

It will be a mite inconvenient, but again, it will all be worth it once we are back!  All good things are worth waiting for!

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Karla Pfaff at the library, 986-3551.  I will be glad to answer any questions, or if you have a space we could use, please let me know!  We have a couple of options we are working on, but I like choices in case! We have replaced this siding on the building and does it look nice, and it sure needed it.  They found quite a bit of rotten wood but it was replaced and we are in good shape now!  We will also be improving the parking lot light for night time.
