Polly Littell, age 85, of Boone and Westhaven Community, died February 13, 2014, at the Boone County Hospital.
Following her wishes, her body has been cremated. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
Veryle Pauline Littell was born in Fraser, Iowa, on October 10, 1928, the daughter of William and Irene (Odin) Parrish.
On March 4, 1949, Polly married George Hayes. The couple divorced in 1958.
On August 26, 1965, she married Richard ‘Dick’ Littell in Boone.
Polly was a homemaker. In earlier years, she worked as a dental assistant for Drs. Sadler, Rasmus, and Grant.
Polly also worked part-time at Walt’s Card Shop.
She loved to read and collect owl figurines.
Polly also loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, two brothers Tom and Gary Parrish, and a sister Evelyn Norene Hillman.
Polly is survived by a son Steven Hayes of Ames; a daughter Vicki Hemstreet and husband Steven of Boone; a stepdaughter Karlene Hughes and husband Jim of Boone; two brothers Billy (Shirley) Parrish of Ankeny and James (Sue) Parrish of Urbandale; three sisters: Lannette Hayward of Buchanan Dam, Texas, Joan (Tex) Davis of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Jean (Jim) McVicker of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; two grandchildren Aaron Hemstreet of Boone and Sarah (Dustin) Frost of W. Des Moines; great granddaughter Hannah Lynn Frost of W. Des Moines; and three step-grandchildren: Matt (Valerie) Whiton of Perry, Beth (Matt) Mallinger of Des Moines, and Jeff Whiton of Waukee; and a step great-granddaughter Natalie Whiton of Perry; and several nieces and nephews.
