Renee M. Howard, 49, of Ankeny, formerly of Madrid, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 in Ankeny. Throughout her life, Renee was a very generous and giving person. In agreement with her wishes, she was a tissue donor for the Iowa Donor Network. Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Renee’s life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, in the Sanborn Memorial Chapel at the Madrid Home, where the family will greet friends. Private family committal services will take place at a later date.

Renee was born on November 9, 1964 in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended DMACC and later graduated from University Of Iowa. Renee was formerly employed in nursing. She had also worked at CDC Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA and did AIDS Research. One of her many passions was taking care of animals, especially dogs. Renee was a foster parent to many dogs before they were adopted and went to a new home. She spent countless hours taking care of many of the Michael Vick Rescue Dogs. Renee loved spending time with her family especially her nieces and nephews.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her mother, JoAnn Russell of Madrid; three brothers, Mike (Anna) Howard of Madrid, Randy (Melissa) Howard of Carlisle, IA and Rick Howard of Princeton, MO; sister, Bobbi Russell of Grimes, IA; 13 nieces and nephews including, Rick Jr., Stephanie, Marcy, Savannah and Lexi; and her loving companion and friend, Helen of Atlanta, GA. Renee was preceded in death by her grandparents, including her maternal grandmother, Nellie Stone.
