Living Faith Lutheran offers one of the few four-hour preschools in the area.

Over the years, Clive churches have become known for being especially kid-friendly. The Little Friends Preschool at Living Faith Lutheran, for example, is just one reason why.

“Little Friends of Living Faith is very unique and one of the only four-hour preschool programs in the Des Moines area,” says preschool director Sandy Nelson. “Our dedicated teachers use a Christian curriculum along with the Handwriting Without Tears materials to develop lesson plans for each specific classroom. Classrooms are arranged in learning centers — art, music, Bible stories, literacy and math, along with free play times both inside and recess outside. Children attend chapel each week and enjoy hearing Bible stories and singing songs together. They also get to eat lunch at school while working on social and self-help skills.”

The preschool is also unique, as it actively involves volunteer parents.

“We feel it is very important to have a strong connection between families and preschool,” Nelson adds. “Each classroom has a classroom parent who helps coordinate classroom and school-wide functions.”

Little Friends will soon begin registration for the 2014-15 school year and has two 3-year-old slots available for the remainder of the 2013-14 session. Call Nelson at 556-5576, or email at sandy.littlefriends@gmail.com to inquire. Learn more at the church’s website at www.clivechurch.com.

Living Faith Lutheran Church also gives children their own church within the parish. Children’s Church is held during the message time at both services.

Heartland Presbyterian Church has a similar program, which underwent some scheduling changes recently. Following the 10 a.m. worship, children are invited to join their respective church school class that is held until 11:15 a.m., which frees up the parents for fellowship and coffee in the community center after worship. Contact the church at 987-4246, or stop by at 14300 Hickman Road. Learn more by visiting the website at http://heartlandpresbyterian.org.

At Faith Lutheran, youths look to the Youth and Family Ministry for contemporary ways to worship, including the junior high fellowship events. The next social engagement for the group will take place on Sunday, Feb. 23. Youths will go ice skating at Metro Ice from 4 – 5:30 p.m. Admission and skate rental is $10.
