Brrr! That was a rough January

Posted February 12, 2014 in Community Featured, Norwalk

I am hoping by the time this issue comes out, the temperature has gotten a lot warmer than what it was in January.

We had a great turnout for our Annual Banquet. 2013 Chamber President Joe Desmond gave the overview as to what the Norwalk Chamber did last year and here it is: Our membership had 145 members representing 113 businesses and four individuals. We had ribbon cuttings for the following new members: Broadbent Distillery, Stephany Insurance, Amore Pet Boutique, Iowa Distilling Company, The Wright Storage and Family Pet Veterinary Center. We also participated in the Opening Night Legislative Reception for the Iowa General Assembly, co-hosted the 2013 Iowa Chinese New Year celebration in February which had one of the largest turnouts in the Chinese Association of Iowa’s history and held the Regional Business After Hours event in March at Capital City Fruit/Des Moines Truck Broker’s new location with a tour of their new facility.

Anytime Fitness expanded its location in March to offer more classes, RUNorwalk had 279 participants (177 outside of the Norwalk area), more than 90 golfers joined us at our golf outing last year, and we had 450 people in attendance at our Party before the Works event.

We welcomed more than 15 new teachers/administrators at the Picnic in the Park event last August, helped with the Simon Estes event that was held in October at the Norwalk Performing Arts building and hosted two meet the Candidate nights for the local election, Regional legislative luncheon for our Iowa leaders and had Secretary of State Matt Schultz as one of our membership lunch speakers.

We also held a groundbreaking for Cedarbrooke Place 2 in November and organized the annual Christmas Tree Lighting event held the Sunday after Thanksgiving.  We will be adding a new event in 2014: Norwalktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 4. Mark your calendars now and save the date as it will be a fun family event.
