Memorials Services for Karol Long, 69, of Perry, IA formerly of Jefferson will be 11:00 am Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Dallas Center Church of the Brethren, 1207 Ash Street, Dallas Center, Iowa. A private family burial will take place at the Scranton Township Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family and may be sent to Nici Whipple at PO Box 465, Dallas Center, IA 50063.
Margaret Karol Long went to her heavenly home on February 8th 2014. She had been a resident at Perry Health Care Center in Perry Iowa since November.
Karol was born in Iowa City on June 23, 1944 and was adopted a few weeks later by Everett and Maud Fey Hoover of rural Scranton. She joined her adopted brother Larry and they were raised on the family farm. Karol graduated from Scranton High School in 1962 and in July of the same year married Robert J. Teeters of Paton. The couple made their home in Scranton where they owned and operated Teeters Farm and Home hardware store. The couple had two children, Dean A Teeters was born February 7th 1967 and later Nicolette R Teeters was born August 8th 1975. Bob was later killed in an auto accident in November 1977.
Karol had a passion for music. She played the flute and piccolo in school and played piano and organ for church, weddings and funerals.
In June of 1993 Karol married Ron Long from Jefferson. The couple learned they had come from the same orphanage around the same time. Ron and Karol were best friends and were married until Ron passed away from cancer in August of 2004.
Karol was preceded in death by her parents, brother and two husbands. She is survived by her children: Nici (Darwin) Whipple of Dallas Center, IA and Dean Teeters of Bondurant, IA; step-children: Mike Long of Grand Junction, IA, Doug Long of Grand Junction, IA, Steve (Kim) Long of Perry, IA, Deb (Alan) Beddow of Jefferson, IA, and Danny (Tina) Long of Greenfield, IA; grandchildren; step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; her nephew Paul Carlson of Minnesota; other relatives; and friends.
