Q: Why do parents take their children to see a chiropractor?

Posted February 05, 2014 in Advice Column, Ames

A: Our nervous system is the master controller of the body and if, at any time, the communication becomes distorted or fuzzy, we begin to experience a variety of communication errors. In the case of babies and children, this lack of communication can play out as an inability to suckle or breastfeed, colic, irritability, poor sleep, developmental delays, digestion problems, asthma, behavioral problems, inability to concentrate, headaches, low energy, etc — the list is endless. While chiropractic care helps with a variety of issues, our focus is not on treating these ailments, but rather to focus on restoring the nervous system to work more efficiently and effectively.

The following are 10 reasons parents take their children to the chiropractor: To encourage good neural plasticity (brain and nerve development). To support their child’s overall health and wellbeing. To help strengthen their child’s immunity and potentially reduce the incidence of colds, earaches and general illness. To assist with colic and Irritable Baby Syndrome. To help with asthma, breathing difficulties and allergies. To encourage good spinal posture. To help improve their child’s ability to concentrate. To assist with behavioural disorders. To help alleviate digestive problems. To assist with bed-wetting and sleep issues. (
