Q: Is there help for pregnancy backaches? A breech baby?

Posted February 05, 2014 in Advice Column, Johnston

A: Absolutely! Being pregnant is exciting, beautiful and can be painless. Being pregnant does not mean you have to tolerate a backache, pubic bone pain or a waddle with walking.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is safe, gentle and effective. Studies show a 91 percent improvement in sacroilitis (lower back/buttock pain) during pregnancy with chiropractic care.

A challenge during pregnancy is an uneven pelvis that can impact how baby lays in utero. Sitting cross legged at work, carrying a toddler on the hip or side sleeping with one leg resting forward can result in an uneven pelvis. When the pelvis has this imbalance, the uterus (anchored by ligaments to the pelvic bones) on the inside can result in a muscular torsion that does not allow baby to be head down in a proper position for an easy delivery. Webster techniques used in chiropractic care have been studied to allow baby to reposition on his or her own, with an 84 percent  success rate.

Even if you had no pain with your first pregnancy, you may have different body changes with the second or third pregnancy that can be greatly helped with chiropractic care and massage therapy.
