Ahhh, February, a month for romance, love and… libraries? Well, why not? Check out these programs and features of the Johnston Public Library throughout the month of February that you’re sure to love.
Join the League of Women Voters Metro Des Moines on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in a book discussion of “The Warmth of Other Suns” by Isabel Wilkerson. In this epic, beautifully-written masterwork, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson chronicles the Jim Crow era and the exodus of almost six million people that changed the face of America. All readers and members of area book clubs are welcome. No registration is necessary.
Third through fifth grades are invited to the Johnston Public Library on the second Wednesday of each month for the School-Age Book Club. This kid-centric book club features lively lit discussions, snacks and more. Come to the meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 4:15 p.m. with a favorite book or call the library for more information about the monthly reading theme. Calling all foodies — regain motivation for a healthy 2014 with a Daily Meal Makeover cooking class hosted by Johnston Hy-Vee Chef Christina and Dietitian Missy on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Johnston Public Library. Learn how to make flavorful, healthy meals and snacks that will leave you feeling confident in your ability to remake comfort food standbys into nutritious and delicious cuisine. Have a kid who loves to build? Children ages 6 to 11 are invited to Johnston Public Library for Lego-Maniacs on Monday, Feb. 24,at 4:15 p.m. Lego building fun and games are centered around a monthly theme. We’ll supply the bricks — you bring the imagination. Snacks will be provided at each meeting. Call the library at 515-278-5233 to register, beginning Feb. 16.
February is also a great time to get to know JPL’s new library catalog.
