Philip Ray Berkley, 58, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2014. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, February 7, at Grimes United Methodist Church in Grimes. Private inurnment will be held in Sabetha, KS at a later date.
Phil was born in Denison, Iowa, to Milt and Ruby Berkley. After graduating from Denison High School, he moved to Des Moines and Grimes where he worked in the auto business (Holmes Oldsmobile, Acura, Honda of Ames, West Central Auto Auction) for the next 32 years. He was a lifelong and faithful Husker fan, devotee of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, and a fireworks aficionado. We will miss his laughter, his hugs, his stories, and his presence in our lives.
Phil is survived by his partner of 30 years, Candace (DeBok) Berkley of Grimes; 4 children, Lenore (Nathan Morton) Maybaum, Emma Berkley, Steven (Jamie Shatava) Berkley, and Beau Berkley; grandsons Noam, Jasper, and Renn Morton; and his sisters Cheryl (Jim) Siemer and Barb Richards.
