Beulah Lorraine Lucas, 100, passed from this life on Saturday, February 1, 2014. She moved in 2011 from Audubon, Iowa to Wesley Acres in Des Moines.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, at Iles Dunn’s Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Also a memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. Private burial will be at a later date.

Beulah was born on September 11, 1913, in Glidden, Iowa to Samuel and Ella (Smith) Kopp. She married Earl Lucas on July 3, 1938. Beulah earned her teaching certificate in 1933 from Simpson College and her bachelor’s degree from Drake University in 1965. She taught school for over 30 years.

She was a past matron of Eastern Star, past president of the Audubon PEO Chapter, member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, and served as director on the Audubon County Hospital Foundation Board.

Beulah will be missed by her sons, Gary (Joan) Lucas of Indianola, Joseph (Nancy) Lucas of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Brooke Lucas of Lebanon, TN, Bret (Susan) Lucas of Johnston, Robin (Tim) Elliott of Grinnell, Van (Vickie) Lucas of Indianola, Lane Lucas of West Des Moines; brother, Dr. Wendall J. Kopp of Oak Ridge, TN; sister, Alicemae Bradley of Indianola; step-grandchildren, John Gentile of Des Moines, Joe (Marianne) Gentile of West Des Moines and many nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Earl Lucas and sister, Louise Haslup.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Audubon County Hospital Foundation or Wesley Acres Courtyard. Online condolences are welcome at
