Fern Smalley, age 101, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died January 31, 2014, at the Home.
Following her wishes, her body has been cremated and a memorial service will be Friday, February 7, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
Fern Olive Smalley was born in Amaqua Township, north of Ogden, on March 14, 1912, the daughter of Charles and Florence (VanPelt) Burgess.
She attended school in Jordan.
On March 14, 1932, Fern married Howard Everett Smalley in Boone.
In earlier years, she worked at the Mackey Methodist Church in Mackey.
She helped her husband farm north of Jordan and they moved to Boone when they retired in 1978.
Fern loved taking care of her pet cats, gardening, raising flowers, especially roses, and crocheting.
She was a member of AARP and former member of the Garden Club.
Fern is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother Eugene Burgess.
She is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at the Chapel of the Eastern Star Home on Friday an hour before the service.
