Donald ‘Donnie’ Lass Sr., age 93, of Pilot Mound, went to his heavenly home on January 27, 2014, at the Madrid Home in Madrid.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 31, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Sanborn Chapel of the Madrid Home in Madrid.

Following the service, he will be cremated and burial will be in the Pilot Mound Cemetery at a later date.

Donald Robert Lass Sr. was born in Pilot Mound, Iowa, on September 25, 1920, the son of Henry and Esther (Sundgren) Lass.

He graduated from Pilot Mound High School and enlisted in the United States Army and served prior to World War II.

On August 25, 1942, Don married Sarah Parks at the Lutheran Church in Boxholm.

In earlier years, Don farmed for 19 years in the Pilot Mound and Dayton areas.

In January of 1960, Donnie began working for Fareway Stores as a truck driver, retiring in 1984.

He enjoyed playing softball, fishing, camping, gardening, and traveling.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Sharon, son Keith, and two grandchildren Jana Laughridge and Tracy Lass.

He is survived by his wife Sarah of Madrid; two sons, Donald Lass Jr. and Jeffrey Lass and wife Sally, all of Pilot Mound; a brother Lloyd Lass of Las Vegas, Nevada; two grandchildren William Myers of Boone and Shona Trullinger of Pleasantville; four great grandchildren Curtis Myers, Emily Myers, Jessica Laughridge, and Elizabeth Laughridge; and two great-great grandchildren Austin Kuebler and Alana Trullinger.

Friends may call at the Chapel at the Madrid Home on Friday from 1 p.m. until service time.

In memory of Don, memorials may be directed to the family

Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth & Marshall in Boone is in charge of arrangements.
