Frances Alice Welder, 97, a resident of The Cedars Assisted Living in Madrid since 2007, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at the Madrid Home. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, at Iles Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid. A private family graveside service will take place on Thursday, January 30, at Fairview Cemetery, north of Madrid.
She was born on March 20, 1916, on a farm near Sheldahl, Iowa, the youngest of six children to George & Anna Engstrom Hedlund. She attended Pleasant Hill School, east of Madrid. On April 18, 1936, Frances married the love of her life, George E. Welder in Boone, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 21, 2012. Frances was a homemaker who loved her family and friends and enjoyed nothing more than spending time in their company. She and George were avid campers and enjoyed their circle of camping friends.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her two sons, Donald L.R. (Margaret) Welder of Madrid and Ronald G. (Myrna) Welder of Fort Madison, IA; three grandchildren; and several nieces and one nephew. In addition to her husband, Frances was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings; and one daughter-in-law.
The family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made to the ACTS Fund at The Cedars Assisted Living in Madrid.
