Bessie May Moore, 92, passed away January 26, 2014 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines. Bessie will be interred later this summer with her husband at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Monday, July 14, 2014 at 2:00 pm.

Bessie was born in Ringsted, Iowa on Feb 5, 1921 to Peter and Celia Peterson and moved to Des Moines, while in grade school. She met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Moore as a junior at East High. After graduation they eloped to Bethany, Missouri and were married on Dec 4, 1938.

They made their home in Des Moines, where she was an active member of University Christian Church serving as a deaconess and teaching Sunday school. While raising her family, she did the office work at home for the family business, Moore Electric Company. In 1984, Dick and Bessie moved to Table Rock Lake near Branson, Missouri. After her husband’s passing in 2009, Bessie returned to West Des Moines residing at The Lodge of Ashworth before moving to the Bickford Senior Living.

Bessie is survived by five children: Larry (Carol) Moore of Mesa, Arizona; Pike (Judy) Moore of Kimberling City, Missouri; Virginia (Don) Mund of Bismarck, North Dakota; Peggy (Ron) Harling of Winterset, Iowa; and Rayanne Burns of Des Moines, Iowa; Fifteen grandchildren, Twenty-nine great Grandchildren and one great great-grand daughter. She is also survived by four very special sister in-laws: Anise (Jim) Tuma, of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Janise Morlan and Mary Blumhost both of Springfield, Missouri; and Marilyn Schwegler of Saint Louis, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick) Moore, her infant son Richard Eugene, great Granddaughter Megan Huyge brother Garvin Peterson, sister Pauline Ripperger, and parents Peter and Celia Peterson.
