Hotel Motel Board Makes Recommendations

Posted December 10, 2012 in Community Blogs

The Webster City Hotel Motel Tax board has recommended grants be awarded to five community groups.  This recommendation will now be forwarded to the City Council for further action.

The Hotel Motel Tax was passed several years ago. Tax dollars are generated when motel users stay at the local motels. It is managed by a local board that is made up of 5 people appointed by the City Council. Groups requesting a grant must fill out an application and make a formal presentation to the board.

The following groups were recommended to be considered for approval by the City Council:

Wilson Brewer Historic Park requested $12,181.06 for several things, including keeping their longer hours of operation, new monthly events that would showcase the park and several holiday events.

Webster City Women’s Club requested $3,931.17 to add a handicap ramp to the Jane Young House.
The Webster City Community Theatre requested $6,904 to fund advertising for their shows and to host Camp Creamery, a week long summer theater workshop.

The City of Webster City requested $8,000 for a new website to be built. It will replace the current website which was designed in 2003.

The Art in Boone River county sub committee requested $6,400 to continue and expand the sculpture event in Webster City and to host a children’s sculpture workshop.
