The Friends of the Library Christmas Basket Silent Auction to raise funds for the purchase of new books on CD is underway.

The auction and silent bidding began on Nov. 19 and continues until Friday, Dec 7. Bidders should stop in often to check their bids and win their favorite baskets. This is a great way to support your library and do some Christmas shopping.

The annual Adel Holiday Open House is Friday, Dec. 7. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the library from 5 – 7 p.m. The Friends of the Library are sponsoring their visit and taking care of all the reindeer while Santa visits with kids. Ms. Elf will be doing face-painting, and Mrs. Claus does balloon art for kids of all ages.

Come to the library and get into the holiday spirit by joining Paula and Laura for a Christmas craft session on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m.

Scrapbookers will meet on Friday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. Bring a project to work on and a snack to share. New members are always welcome.

Dallas County Conservation will bring snakes to the library for story time on Monday, Dec. 10 at 10:30 a.m.

Our last Teen Time in 2012 is Monday Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. Teens in grades 6-12 are encouraged to meet in our newly-expanded teen section and enjoy some time in your library.

The Brown Bag Book Club meets on Thursday, Dec. 13 to discuss their favorite Christmas stories. A large selection of holiday-themed novels, mysteries and romances are available at the main desk.

The Evening Book Club will meet for a potluck dinner to discuss “Wishin’ and Hopin’ ” by Wally Lamb on Thursday, Dec. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Bring a salad or main dish and the library will provide dinner service and beverages.

Come to the library on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. and relax with a steaming mug of cocoa and a bag of popcorn while watching the classic movie “Holiday Inn” on our big screen.

Staff and Friends of the Library will be on hand to gift-wrap your Christmas presents for a free will donation from Monday, Dec. 10 to Friday, Dec. 21.

The last week of children’s activities for the season is Dec. 3 – 9. Story Time for ages 3 – 5 year olds will meet on Mondays, Toddler Time for children 3 and under will be held on Tuesdays, while Music Time for all preschoolers will meet on Thursdays. Each class will begin at 10:30 a.m. Story times will resume in mid-January.

The Adel Library will be closed in observance of Christmas on Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25. We will be open New Year’s Eve from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. but closed New Year’s Day.
