Raymond Eppert

Raymond Eppert, 85, died Thursday, November 22, 2012, at home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, at the Luther Christian Church of which he was a member. Burial will follow at the Squire Boone Cemetery.

Ray was born October 28, 1927, in Boone County to D. Paul and Ruby (Rainbolt) Eppert. He was raised and lived in the Madrid/Luther area all of his life. Ray served in the US Army during WWII. He married June Crabtree on June 15, 1952, in Madrid. Ray had worked at Armstrong Tire Company and later became self employed farming and operating a shelling and trucking business. He had served the city of Luther for 30 years as mayor and three years as a city council member. Ray was a member of American Legion Post 56 in Boone, a life time member of the VFW Post 817 in Boone, and a former member of the Luther Lion’s Club. He was an assistant scoutmaster. Ray enjoyed the Iowa State Fair, county fairs and local parades.

Ray is survived by his sons, Keith (Marsha) Eppert, Douglas (B.J.) Eppert; five grandchildren, Bradley Eppert, Heather (Toby) Anderson, Nicholas (Shara) Eppert, Alexandra, and Michael Eppert; three great grandchildren, Madison and Jordan Eppert and Joseph Eppert; his siblings, Dale (JoAnne) Eppert, Frank Eppert, Arthur Eppert, Jean (Dan) Houston, Mary (Charles) Johnson, Katherine Huber and Barbara (Marvin) Lytle; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Lynn and brothers, Robert and Wilbur.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday at Iles Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be directed later. Online condolences will be welcomed at
