Thanksgiving Traditions

Posted November 21, 2012 in Altoona, Advice Column, Pleasant Hill

My family has many traditions throughout the year that we continue from year to year. The most important tradition that we look forward to in anticipation annually is the entire family getting together and enjoying a table full of delicious foods, watching movies and looking through all the sales yet to come the following day.

Our celebration is chaotic and noisy and far from relaxing. There is always one kid who is usually in a bad mood, and everyone else just wants to fill their stomachs to the brim and enjoy the day. The great smells of Thanksgiving spill throughout the house as does everyone’s excitement throughout the preparation.

This past year, my son Jake  was diagnosed with leukemia. He is of the best kind of spirit and motivation that anyone could hope for. Jake will live a long and healthy life doing the things he loves to do and surrounding himself with people he loves. Our family will hold each other a little tighter this year with the realization that life can change suddenly and dramatically.  After our hug, the chaos will continue, fighting over who gets the last bite of chocolate dessert or who gets to pick the next movie, and we will enjoy this wonderful holiday and the holiday season to come.

This time of year as I reflect on my wonderful family and the joy — and yes, stress — they bring to me, I also reflect upon all the wonderful people I have met this year in my business as a mortgage consultant with Valley Bank. I have worked with so many customers who have become friends with me over the years. I have made so many new friends this year as new customers are purchasing homes, some of them their very first homes or contacting me for their refinances. I am most thankful for all of you because you continue to phone and email me and allow me to be a part of your most important decisions.

I am thankful for all of your friends you send my way, so that I can be a part of their mortgage decisions. I appreciate that you have thought enough of me to refer your friends and family.

May your traditions and gatherings be as spectacular and filling as I anticipate my family’s Thanksgiving to be. Enjoy the day and the wonderful people that you choose to spend this holiday with.

Happy Thanksgiving.
